Freda C. Lewis-Hall, M.D., FAPA
Executive Vice President, Chief Medical Officer
Freda is Pfizer's Chief Medical Officer and a member of the company's Executive Leadership team. As the company's senior physician, she leads Pfizer Medical, the division encompassing Worldwide Regulatory Strategy, Worldwide Safety Strategy, Clinical Trials Excellence, Worldwide Safety & Regulatory Operations, External Medical Communications, External Medical Affairs, Regulatory Compliance, Quality Assurance and the Center for Medical Advancement. Pfizer Medical colleagues are collectively responsible for the safe, effective and appropriate use of Pfizer human health products from their first day of testing in human volunteers until their last day of use anywhere in the world.
Prior to joining Pfizer in 2009, Freda held senior leadership positions in medical affairs and new product development with research-based companies including Vertex, Bristol-Myers Squibb, Pharmacia and Lilly. Before joining the biopharmaceutical industry, she led research projects for the National Institutes of Health and served as vice chairperson and professor of the Department of Psychiatry at Howard University College of Medicine. She began her career providing frontline patient care in underserved communities in and outside the United States.
Freda earned her B.S. degree from Johns Hopkins University and her M.D. from Howard University. A well-regarded expert on the effects of mental illness on families and communities, and on issues of health care disparities, she is a Board Member of the American Psychiatric Foundation, a Fellow of the New York Academy of Medicine and a member of the Board of Governors of the Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI).
